Antiques in the Making - Porcelain People
Kit Smithson - santadolls@excite.com I love working with clay, cloth, fiber and wood. These sculptures combine aspects of all four, and I'm never bored working with them. I make an original sculpture from clay, make a mold of it, then pour the mold in porcelain. When the greenware is dried and cleaned, it's fired in a kiln. Each different paint color is separately fired, so each piece goes through the kiln process 5 to 8 times. I finish a maximum of 10 pieces of each face. Each is dressed differently, with different props and stance, and each develops it's own personality. Please visit the Photos section, and be introduced to my People!
